Coin Drive this Month! The third grade class will be running a coin drive for the month of January to raise money for Action for Education, a volunteer run NGO in Greece that helps create community learning spaces for refugee communities. Please send students with spare change, money from coin jars, etc. Students should not be going door to door for money and they should be asking for permission to take coins from you and other people in their lives! Each classroom will have a jar for coins. Please email Keshnee (email@example.com) with questions.
Book Fair Starts Monday, Jan. 13
The book fair stimulates interest in books, adds to our school library, and helps families “recycle” books. Participation is strictly voluntary. The book fair occurs every other year.
Monday, Jan 13th: Students bring in books from home (up to 1 grocery size bag). Please help your child choose elementary age books that can go to the book fair (please leave pop culture books at home). Teachers will purchase “book fair” books for classroom libraries afterschool on Monday. Students are not present for book purchasing. The School pays between 0.25 and 2.00 for paperback books depending on condition and title. Payment for books purchased by school will be sent home in envelopes on Wednesday.
Wednesday, Jan 15th: Students will have the opportunity to trade their remaining “book fair” books (those not purchased by the school) with other students. Every student will have one or more books to trade on Friday, whether they brought books from home or not. Parents can decline to accept any of the books their child brings home from the book fair. Please take any books that you do not want to keep to your favorite book recycling center or send them back to school and we will recycle them.
NO SCHOOL on MONDAY Jan. 20th, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Observed
Fall 2020 Enrollment & Re-enrollment
Siblings entering Kindergarten Fall 2020: Kindergarten applications for siblings of current students are due on January 24th. Please pick up an application from the office or request an application by email (firstname.lastname@example.org). Students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2020 to enter kindergarten.
Grades K-4 re-enrollment: Please let us know by January 24th if your child will not or may not be continuing at USC in the fall of next year (email@example.com). Please talk to Rea Erickson if you are unsure of your enrollment plans for next year. It is important for us to know about possible changes as soon as possible.
New student admission meetings: Our intake meetings will be held on January 30th & January 31st at 5:30 for parents interested in enrolling students for the 2020-21 school year. As current parents, you are the best source for other parents to hear about our great school. Please tell friends and acquaintances, particularly with children entering kindergarten, to come to one of our admission meetings.
