Holiday Giving – Food Donations, Dec. 9 – 13

The school nurtures the spirit of giving and caring by collecting food donations for Food for People, Inc., the food bank for Humboldt County. We ask people to bring in food donations rather than giving gifts to teachers and/or other students. Guidelines for food donations: The most needed items are canned meat (chicken, fish), canned soups, stews and chili, peanut butter, beans (canned or dry), whole wheat pasta, boxed pasta & rice meals, cereal & oatmeal (low sugar), macaroni & cheese, canned vegetables, and canned fruit (in fruit juice). Please no homemade foods or glass. Families who want to participate in this voluntary effort can send food to their child’s classroom.

Report all absences to the school office by phone (822-4845 ext. *#) or email ( We need to know the reason for the absence. Absences reduce school funding. Students that miss 10% or more of school days are considered to be chronically absent. The number of chronically absent students is reported on the state accountability dashboard and can affect charter renewal. If your student has a planned absence of 2 days or more, please contact your child’s teacher in advance to request an independent study contract. Independent study is counted as attendance when completed.
