Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the Spring Sing. We appreciated having so many families participate and for each of us to be part of this learning community. The students and Fiona were amazing and brought tears to many an eye.

Earth Day Celebration, April 3rd, 12:30-3pm

This is a student event, but we could use some adult volunteers. Bikes There will need 2-3 helpers for a presentation on reducing our carbon footprint on the blacktop. We could also use 1 person each for the other presenters (Greg-Earth games, Barbara-botany, Schatz Energy, and Ali-dendrology). Please reply to this email or sign-up outside 1st grade if you can help.

Board of Directors Meeting, April 3rd at 6 pm

The board will review the LCAP annual update. Childcare is available for elementary age students during this meeting. Board meetings are public meetings that are open to all.

Water Bottle Filling Station and Water Fountain

We have a donor who is willing to match donations toward a new water fountain. If you would like to donate, please make out checks to ECE (Equinox Center for Education) with note “match”. Remember you can also make donations on the ECE website using your debit or credit card.

ECE Billing

Sorry, the debit/credit payment option for ECE billing did not work this month. We hope to have it working next month! Thanks for your patience.

Available Mental Health Services for Students

Union Street Charter offers Student Support for social-emotional issues when requested by the teacher or parents. Typical topics covered include identifying emotions, understanding how emotions feel in the body, mindfulness, social skills, conflict management, boosting confidence and offering a comfortable space for students to talk about what is going on for them. Many of the activities are play-based, including drawing, using sensory activities and playing games. These activities often help the student express themselves in a comfortable setting. Space is limited and the sessions are once a week for 15-20 minutes.

If a student has Medi-Cal, The Department of Health and Human Services can provide counseling. Students who are experiencing some anxiety, depression or more than typical difficulty with social interactions may be referred by parents or the school. Parents can call 445-7715. Families with insurance can call their insurance company and ask for a list of counselors covered by their plan.

The Arcata Family Resource Center may also be able to assist with Mental Health Services. You can contact them at 826-1002. They are located on the Arcata Elementary School campus at 2400 Baldwin, but services are open for all Arcata residents.
